Carver Barracks is an army base in Essex approximately one mile north of the village of Debden and is built on the site of an old Royal Air Force airfield RAF Debden. There are units of the Royal Signals and Royal Engineers based at the barracks. Carver Barracks is the location of Wing Headquarters for Essex Wing.

History[]

The airfield was built in 1935-37 with the runways being laid in 1940. It was first occupied by the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) in September, 1942. After the Second World War it was return to Royal Air Force control.
